jo baer is considered one of the pioneers of minimalism. in 1975, she turned away from minimalist painting and toward an image-based language of forms. the catalogue explores this break and simultaneously works on the connection between the two groups of work. in addition, the largely unknown drawings are introduced for the first time and placed in a relation to baer’s paintings. baer is presented as a highly independent artist, whose work breaks away from the conception of a linear artistic career. this publication is the first comprehensive monographic catalogue of works of this singular and important artist.

jo baer gilt als eine der wegbereiterinnen des minimalismus. 1975 verabschiedete sie sich von der minimalistischen malerei und wandte sich einer figurativen formensprache zu. der katalog thematisiert diesen bruch und arbeitet zugleich die verbindung der beiden werkgruppen heraus. dabei wird erstmals das weitgehend unbekannte zeichnerische werk vor- und in einen bezug zu den gemälden baers gestellt. baer zeigt sich als eine höchst eigenständige und unabhängige künstlerin, deren werk sich der vorstellung einer geradlinigen künstlerkarriere entzieht. die publikation ist der erste umfassende monografische werkkatalog zu ihr.
